Appliqué Sampler Quilt - Part 6 in the series (7 parts to complete full quilt however these workshops can be booked as stand-alone days if you want to learn a specific technique)

When: Weaving Block - Saturday 25th January, 9.30am - 12.30pm  

           3D Appliqué Block - Saturday 25th January, 1.30pm - 4.30pm

Where: Fabric HQ, Layby Farm, Old Risborough Road, Stoke Mandeville, Buckinghamshire, HP22 5XJ.   

Skill Level: Intermediate  

Learn how to construct part 6 of this stunning Appliqué Sampler quilt, designed by Emma Dann. The techniques in this quilt are spilt up over several months, in each session Emma will guide you through the techniques needed for each group of blocks that month with detailed instructions to take away. You'll learn now to master Needle Turn, Reverse Appliqué, EPP Clamshells, Orange Peel, Fabric Slashing, 3D Appliqué, Landscape and so much more to complete this unique modern appliqué sampler quilt.

You will be shown the skills needed within the workshop and then you will go away to complete your blocks ready for the next class. You will have the choice to book onto all of the classes or pick and chose as you wish but we think you're going to love them all!

In part six you will will be taught the following techniques complete with hand stitching. 

Block 1: Weaving block - No Quilting - 1x block


Block 2: 3D Appliqué Block with Free Motion & Sashiko Quilting - 1x block


What to bring:

When you sign up to a class you will be sent a more detailed needs this for your fabric requirements.

  • Bias binding maker tool 1/2"
  • A piece of foam board A3 size
  • Bondaweb
  • 1 FQ fusible interfacing
  • For each block you will need front and back background fabrics (Emma has used a mixture of cotton/linens and medium weight cottons)
  • 2x Small piece of wadding
  • Scrappy fabric pieces for Leafs and 3D blocks
  • Darning foot
  • Usual sewing kit (sharp scissors, lots of pins and hand sewing needles)
  • Sewing machine

* Due to the nature of the construction of this quilt it is not advisable to wash it - think of it as more as a piece of art rather than a lap quilt!

You will be given a full instructions of each technique, you will need a 1/4" foot, a walking foot, rotary cutter and quilt ruler for this course. 

Please bring along your sewing machine, if you don’t have one no problem we can provide one but please let make@fabrichq.co.uk know in advance. If bringing your own sewing machine please can we ask that you also bring along the manual. If you wish to borrow a sewing machine or sewing machine accessories there will be a returnable £10 cash deposit to be paid at the beginning of the  workshop.
