'Hip to be Square' The Absolute Beginners Quilt - Starting Saturday 21st March 2020

Part 3 - Saturday 25th April, 9.30am - 11.30pm

Grade - beginners: This workshop is suitable for those with no previous experience of patchwork and quilting. Only simple sewing techniques are required however you will need to know how to use a sewing machine, sew in a straight line and know how to use a rotary cutter.
Join us and Jen Kelson from Cake Card Cloth at the Make HQ Studio for this three part workshop. Learn the basic techniques of patchwork and quilting and construct a beautiful lap quilt in the process. The simple construction techniques used in the Hip to be Square quilt makes it a fantastic first patchwork project.
Quilt Dimensions - 41" x 49"
During the class we will cover the following:
- Using a rotary cutter to cut your fabric squares
- Sewing your squares together using chain piecing
- How to layer your quilt 'sandwich' and secure using basting pins
- Straight line quilting using a walking foot
- Binding your quilt
Note: There is no pre-work required for this class however some homework may be required between the workshops.
- 9 fat quarters of fabric
- 1.5m fabric for backing
- Piece of wadding (approx 1.5m x 1.2m)
- 0.5m fabric for binding
* You will also need a 1/4 foot and a walking foot to complete this quilt.
Refreshments and all tuition included. We do have some equipment for you to use but before the class begins we will send you a pre-read which will include a list of everything you will need to bring with you.
Please bring along your sewing machine, if you don’t have one no problem we can provide one but please let firstname.lastname@example.org know in advance. If bringing your own sewing machine please can we ask that you also bring along the manual. If you wish to borrow a sewing machine or sewing machine accessories there will be a returnable £10 cash deposit to be paid at the beginning of the workshop.
